The Old Grey Whistle Test for the 21st Century

“Soundcheck” is the name of a live entertainment internet show which sits on the platform of Visual Radio Arts, and is the brainchild of Phil Moakes, former director of Frome FM community radio station.

A bit like Concert Window, Visual Radio Arts is essentially a very effective promotional tool comprising of a “stage” in an old fire station, along with a green room, kitchen, WC and central control studio where Phil and his partner, Mags, also a former director of Frome FM, craft very sophisticated audio and video footage of live musicians, and sometimes the odd poet and film-star.

Broadcast live across the globe on the Visual Radio Arts Facebook page and website, the acts then receive the HD edit to take-away and use for promotional use - ALL FOR FREE!!! Although their services and equipment are available for hire and viewers are asked to donate the price of a coffee for watching.

Shows go out every two weeks at 9pm on Friday and then 2pm and 9pm on Saturday, reaching up to eight thousand viewers globally per show and growing; and if that wasn’t enough to be getting on with after the full-time day-job, they’ve now launched their own radio station too!

Phil describes it as “The Old Grey Whistle Test for the 21st Century” and is currently inviting people who can say #welovelivemusic to join the team, so if you have a good sense of humour and adventure, and fancy having a go at any of the following…

  • Cameras

  • Presenting

  • Artist Liaison

  • Audio

  • Photography

  • Social Media

... or if you are a business that would be interested in advertising on Soundcheck, please contact Phil and Mags at:
