A fabulous new show choir is starting in Frome next week on Monday 18th September from 7.30pm - 9pm at RISE. We went to find out more from the lovely Jess who runs Bristol Show Choir & Bath Show Choir...
So Jess, what is Frome Show Choir and what are its roots?
"Frome Show Choir is an a-cappella musical theatre choir, singing songs from across the decades and genres of musicals. We learn a bit of everything, from big West End smash hits like Wicked, Hamilton and Les Mis, to more quirky, off-Broadway productions you may not know like A New Brain and Come From Away. All of it in glorious vocal harmony!"
"We started with Bristol Show Choir back in 2017 where we eventually expanded to four groups. We’ve since opened groups in Bath, and now we're so excited to be coming to fabulous Frome!"
What experience can people expect if they come to see the choir and can anyone join?
"Anyone over 18 is welcome to join. We don't hold auditions and everyone is welcome, regardless of your previous experience in singing or music. And if you come and see us in action....well, I guarantee you'll leave with a big old smile on your face!"
What are the benefits of being in a choir?
"There have been numerous studies on the benefits of being in a choir surrounding mental health and wellbeing. It's proven that group singing reduces the stress hormone, whilst boosting oxytocin (or the happy hormone!). There is something so special about getting together every week with a group of like-minded people to create beautiful harmonies."
"In addition to the singing itself, it’s the close bonds of friendship created through singing together. I've made friends for life in choir, and across our groups we've had engagements, weddings and even a couple of Show Choir babies!"
What made you decide to set up in Frome?
"Frome is just a fantastic, creative, community-minded place! We wanted to bring our love of musical theatre to a vibrant and brilliant town, so where better than Frome?!"
When do you practice and is there a fee?
"We’ll rehearse every Monday evening, starting on Monday 18th September, from 7:30-9pm at RISE. Your first session is absolutely free. After that, members do pay a fee to be part of the choir. You can check out the prices and benefits of joining us HERE."
What’s your favourite place in Frome?
"Frome holds a very special place in my heart as my son was born in the community hospital! There are countless amazing places and spaces in Frome, but of course I'm going to have to say my favourite place is RISE.... as that's the new home of Frome Show Choir!"
