A Carnival to Remember
This month has been a bit of a whirlwind here in Frome. The absolute highlight was Frome Carnival – what a spectacle! The streets were alive with people, brightly lit floats, majorettes twirling their batons, and fire engines letting off their sirens. The Westway Precinct came alive with a sound system that had the whole crowd dancing – it felt a bit like Frome’s version of Notting Hill Carnival, and having the whole When in Frome podcast team there with me on the night made it even more special.

Ghostly Tales Await
On a spookier note, I went on a ghost walk through Frome, led by the Reverend Joseph Glanvill, the town’s 17th-century vicar, who was absolutely brilliant. The tales he told didn’t disappoint - from the Nunney Hitchhiker to the haunted cellar at the Griffin Inn, and the Grey Lady of Beckington, If you’re looking for something to do for Halloween, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Bats and Archery Adventures
Meanwhile, Sonia was busy on the Frome Big Bat Count, spotting 187 bats across 12 species - perfectly Halloween-themed! And she didn’t stop there - this month’s Challenge Sonia saw her take on archery, hitting the target almost every time. I think it’s safe to say it was one of her best challenges yet – I was seriously impressed!

Celebrating Local Legends
We also celebrated our Local Legend this month, Jackie Bryant, Asda’s community champion, whose tireless fundraising supports local charities like Fair Frome and Dorothy House. It’s so inspiring to see the difference one person can make in a community, and Jackie truly embodies that spirit.

Bittersweet Goodbyes and Family Celebrations
On the home front, this month brought some bittersweet moments. We waved goodbye to our youngest son as he headed off to Exeter University to study Computer Science. After a mammoth IKEA trip and a car packed to the brim, he was finally ready to start Freshers’ Week - and let’s just say, once he was settled, he couldn’t get me out of the door quick enough!

Family Milestones and Joyful Gatherings
September also brought a number of family birthdays, including my husband’s and my mum’s 90th. It was wonderful to have the whole family, from the eldest (90) to the youngest (9 months), together for a celebratory lunch.
A Month of Joy and Mischief
From the vibrancy of the carnival to the spookiness of the ghost walk, and the joy of family milestones, September in Frome has been full of laughter, adventure, and a touch of mischief - the perfect way to step into October.
